If you know Katie, you love her-that’s just a fact. She is one of my very favorite people because of her humor, her joy, and the way she moves through the world with such grace. I met her when I captured her sister, Ginny’s, wedding in 2021. At age 28, Katie experienced pseudotumor cerebri, a very rare disease that mimics a brain tumor and causes damage to the optic nerve and resulted in her losing almost all of her vision. Nothing slows her down, though, and along with her guide dog, Jack, she has climbed the ladder and made lasting relationships in her job with the Braves organization (including yes, the World Series). Enter her soul mate, Zach-who makes her laugh and looks at her with such adoration in his eyes it makes anyone around them know just how in love he is. There were so many unique details to their wedding day, including a moment when the guests donned a blindfold and listened to Braves announcer Paul Byrd describe the attendants’ outfits-giving people a few minutes in Katie’s world. The blindfolds came off as soon as Katie started walking down the aisle, and there was not a dry eye in the house (myself included). The team that came together to serve and celebrate this couple reminded me of why I do this job in the first place, and we truly had the best time ending our year with this family.
